The Stitch

DLBP is very interested to read about The Stitch highway-capping project in downtown Atlanta.

The Atlanta Metropolitan Area is growing at a considerable rate.  This is leading to worsening problems of traffic, pollution, and overcrowding.  To overcome this, a three-quarter mile highway-capping greenspace is being proposed through the city’s downtown, known as The Stitch.

The Stitch is billed as a once-in-a-generation project that will help Atlanta to grow and flourish sustainably.  The 14 acre project will transform currently-empty parking lots and underutilized properties into vibrant and diverse communities. The Stitch will result in the re-routing roads, and connect sustainable modes of transport with a goal of creating a more equitable, safe, and resilient downtown Atlanta.

In addition, The Stitch will create new elevated public parks, and provide space for 3,000 new affordable housing units and 13,000 jobs.  Construction is expected to being by 2026, with completion estimated in 2032.
DLBP is excited to see how this project progresses and the positive growth that it will bring Atlanta.
